From http://www.concordiaballroom.com: The Concordia Ballroom is centrally located in the city of La Crosse at 1129 La Crosse Street. It is 1/2 block West of the intersection of West Avenue and La Crosse Street. The ballroom was originally constructed in 1891. It was built as a community hall and dance center for the German American community in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The building is on the registry of historic sites maintained by the city of La Crosse Historic Sites Commission. The ballroom is currently owned and operated by the Concordia Aid Society, a non-stock, non-profit corporation of volunteers who rallied to save the site in 1995 when there was a proposal to tear it down as a site for a Taco Bell parking lot. Society members invested their own money to save and rehabilitate the building as a site for dances and receptions.
