2017 Great Lakes
Late August found us going on a Great Lakes tour with the Flying Longhorns. After visiting friends in Wisconsin, we took a train to Chicago where we stayed at the Palmer House the night before the tour. Weather was great except for the visit of Harvey back in Rockport. The ship was small as cruise ships go and the crew/wait staff were a highlight. My one take-away from the trip was the similarity in magnitude between the Great Lakes and my native Gulf of Mexico. Their breadth and unpredictable nature are undeniable and inspiring.

Chicago tour, approaching the "Bean"
from wikipedia: Cloud Gate is a public sculpture by Indian-born British artist Sir Anish Kapoor, that is the centerpiece of AT&T Plaza at Millennium Park in the Loop community area of Chicago, Illinois. Constructed between 2004 and 2006, the sculpture is nicknamed The Bean because of its shape. Made up of 168 stainless steel plates welded together, its highly polished exterior has no visible seams. Kapoor's design was inspired by liquid mercury and the sculpture's surface reflects and distorts the city's skyline.
