Prague - lunch at U Medvidku - try the pig tail
from http://www.pragueexperience.com: Whilst some pubs have veered towards the tourist dollar, U Medvidku has retained its traditional charm and is still a favourite with Czech locals. U Medvidku dates from 1466. For over 500 years the building was a brewery, until the malt house was converted into the present day beer hall in the 20th century.
The original feel of the U Medvidku brewery remains to this day. This is a straight forward Czech pub, with various drinking areas, and it is large enough to accommodate several hundred people.
The interior is standard for a Czech pub - wooden furnishings and white-washed walls.
The star turn though is undoubtedly the beer (what else do you go to the pub for!). U Medvidku is a unique pub in Prague in that it has kegged beers, bottled beers, an onsite microbrewery and tank beer.
The tank beer process has only been adopted by a few pubs in Prague. And U Medvidku uses it for Budvar (Budweiser). The beer is delivered unpasteurised from the brewery by tanker lorry/truck and stored in the cellar in a huge tank, which makes the Budvar at U Medvidku the freshest in Prague.
