2022 Canadian Maritimes
Suzanne and I did a 3-day pre-trip from Rockport TX to Boston to enjoy that area and get our travel legs as this was only our 2nd major excursion since the start of the pandemic in 2020. Lots of airline issues but everyone seemed to take it in stride. So glad this is the age of the cell phone and the internet as we never would have been able to make the changes we did.
This was a late June 2022 AHI (our 14th with them) land tour of the 3 provinces of Canada (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island) known collectively as the Canadian Maritimes. 2020 and 2021 had damaged the tourism industry, including the airlines, so that we were very welcome to the Canadians. There were 19 travelers, and we were provided a full-size motorcoach (40+ seating) so we could spread out. The journey started in Halifax NS, took a long ferry ride to Saint John NB, traveled over the longest causeway over ice-covered water to Charlottetown PEI, visited Baddeck NS and Cape Breton, winding up back where we started at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel.

Peggy's Cove Lighthouse
Wikipedia - The lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove (original 1868, current 1915) was declared surplus by the Canadian Coast Guard in June 2010, along with almost all lighthouses in Canada. The lighthouse had until May 29, 2012 to be nominated under the Heritage Lighthouse Protection Act by a group willing to look after it, or the lighthouse will face disposal. The province of Nova Scotia has discussed taking ownership but has not made a decision. In 2015, 74 lighthouses were listed which will be preserved under the Heritage Lighthouse Protection Act but they did not include Peggy's Cove.
