Yves Saint Laurent - "Beatnik collection"
from Dior exhibit handout: In July 1960, Saint Laurent's "Beatnik" collection quoted street style, pop culture and the movies. The black leather Chicago ensemble took its cue from the rebel biker immortalized by Marlon Brando in "The Wild One." Disoriented by its radicalism, the label's clientele didn't care for the collection. Saint Laurent left Dior and, with Pierre Berge, founded his own couture house.
